Lost in Munich - Czech Entry to Oscars

o

Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA) selected Petr Zelenka's latest film Lost in Munich as the Czech entry to 89th Academy Awards nomination for the Best Foreign Film category.

The members of CFTA decided to nominate Petr Zelenka's absurd behind-the-scenes comedy about Czech nation's trauma caused by infamous Munich conference of 1939. Among others highly ranked films were Family Film by Olmo Omerzu, Jan Hřebejk's The Teacher, I, Olga Hepnarova by Tomáš Weinreb and Petr Kazda or We Are Never Alone by Petr Vaclav.

The film tells a story of Sir P, a 90-year-old talking grey parrot that once belonged to Edouard Daladier, which is brought to Prague at the invitation of the French Cultural Institute as a living relic of the time of the Munich Agreement. The animal is kidnapped by Pavel, a Czech journalist, and its controversial statements on Edouard Daladier cause something of an accidental political scandal.

Lost in Munich, premiered last October at BFI London Film Festival, was produced by David Ondříček and his company Lucky Man Films. It was awarded Czech Film Critics' Awards for Best Screenplay, Best Director and Best Film and two Czech Lions - Best Screenplay and Best Editting. The film is also part of European Film Awards Selection 2016.

The trailer for the film is available here.
