Czech focus section called Czech Cinema Now! will introduce a selection of recent Czech feature films and documentaries to the German audience. The section is organized in partnership with Czech Film Center. Moreover, three films were selected to the main competition section: The Teacher (by Jan Hřebejk), Filthy (by Tereza Nvotová) and a documentary Teaching War (by Adéla Komrzýová). 

The Teacher:

Section Czech Cinema Now! will present four feature films: Schmitke (by Štěpán Altrichter), Family Film (Rodinný film, by Olmo Omerzu), The Way Out (Cesta ven, by Petr Václav) and the last year´s hit first presented at Berlinale I, Olga Hepnarová (Já, Olga Hepnarová, by Tomáš Weinreb and Petr Kazda). There will be also four documentaries screened in the section, including the two winners of MFDF Jihlava: FC Roma (by Rozálie Kohoutová and Tomáš Bojar) and Normal Autistic Film (Normální autistický film, by Miroslav Janek), and succesful film by Helena Třeštíková Mallory.

Section Symposium will present The Apple Game by Věra Chytilová, section Specials will show To See the Sea, The Hop Pickers and Pokot (by Agnieszka Holland), Oppose Othering section will present documentary A Hole in the Head (by Robert Kirchhoff) and Open Frame Award will screen short film Adorama directed by Roman Štětina. 

The festival will also organize a panel discussion with Czech filmmakers (29.4.2017, 4.00 PM, Festivalzentrum), the exhibition of Czech film posters (Tschechoslowakische Filmposter 1960 -1989, Stadtmuseum am Markt – sam, starting 29.4.2017) and other activities regarding Czech culture (a reading by Jaroslav Rudiš or  Friday’s big goEast party with Slovak DJ-duo Malalata from Prague).
