Both of the directors are studying at Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague. This year’s shortlisted 45 films were selected from over 400 submissions by students at film schools in 15 countries across the Word, including Argentina, Austria, Canada, China, Germany, India, Israel, Lebanon, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. 

Synopsis:
The Fisherman (by Bára Anna Stejskalová, 2016, 10 min)
A story about fisherman, who pulled a skeleton out of the frozen lake. He tries to escape from the skeleton, so he hides in the dark, where he looks for comfort in cheap entertaintment. Yet the reality scratches on the window and fisherman´s hiding place quickly becomes a place full of nightmares. Manipulation, humanity, puppetry - the main themes of this film.

The Collision (by Šimon Štefanides, 2016, 13 min)
Old Mr. Tošovský has knocked down Mrs. Pařízková by a car. His daughter Zuzana is boiling with anger and takes the car keys away from him to prevent him from further driving. On one hand Zuzana solves the problem with her father, but on the other she antagonizes her mother Jana, who is planning a trip to a remote cemetery to do the spring-cleaning. After a quarrel with her daughter, Jana decides not to leave the things as they are.

BAFTA’s Student Film Awards competition was expanded this year as part of BAFTA’s growing international footprint, which seeks to foster strong talent connections across the UK, US and Asia. 
This year, select film schools worldwide were invited to submit up to nine films for consideration for four top prizes – the BAFTA Student Film Award for Animation, the Student Film Award for Documentary, the Student Film Award for Live Action Film, and the Special Jury Prize, selected by the event’s panel members.
