The Czech Film Fund continues its partnership with Les Arcs Film Festival (Dec 15 - 22) and have brought to France four Czech producers well-experienced in international co-productions. Dagmar Sedláčková, one of the selected producers, will also introduce her latest short film Reconstruction to the audience in Les Arcs.

The partnership with the festival should bolster involvement of the Czech Republic in production of quality and potentially successful European films and aid Czech professionals in creating close collaborations in this area. The Czech Film Center on behalf of the fund selected four producers with experience in minority coproductions to participate in the festival and participate in the coproduction market program. Attending are Pavel Strnad from Negativ Film Productions, whose projects for instance include films Ice MotherAlois Nebel or upcoming films National Street or Outside (present as WIP in Les Arcs last year); Monika Kristl from Dawson Films (3 Seasons in Hell and the nearly finished On the Roof); Danny Holman from Bionaut (Places or upcoming Rosa & Dara and Their Great Summer Adventure); and Dagmar Sedláčková (The Good DeathBille or Reconstruction).

Reconstruction in Les Arcs

Producer Dagmar Sedláčková will also present her latest short film Reconstructionby Ondřej Novák and Jiří Havlíček shown in short film competition. The film premiered this year in Locarno at Pardi di Domani follows the 17-year-old Olda as he awaits trial in a detention center for juveniles. He tries to forget his recent past, but the monotony of jail life, broken only by recollections of his brutal assault on a homeless man, keep Olda from putting his mind at rest. Even as he recalls pieces of the police reconstruction, which forced him to relive the crime, his memory is every bit as imperfect and incomplete as our efforts to comprehend his senseless act of violence.

Furthermore, two Czech minority co-productions Spoor by Agnieszka Holland and Fugue by Agnieszka Smoczynska will be presented as part of Focus Poland.

Minority co-production The Disciple in Les Arcs

The latest feature by director and producer Ivan Ostrochovský Servants will be presented in Works in Progress in Les Arcs. The film produced by Ostrochovský's Punkchart Films (Slovakia) in co-production with Point Film (Romania), Negativ Film Productions (Czech Republic) and Film & Music Entertainment (Ireland) tells the story of two friends, Michal and Juraj, who apply for the studies at the Roman Catholic seminary so they can escape the moral devastation of the society in socialist Czechoslovakia.
