Ten shorts and features were granted the support for animated films

The Czech Film Fund announced the results of the latest call for production support of animated films. All together 10 projects were supported with the amount of CZK 36 million (EUR 1,4 million).

The highest amount CZK 10 million (EUR 392 157) received features Babu in the Night City and Rosentaal. Petr Vodička’s Babu in the Night City (Babu v nočním městě), produced by Kuli Film, tells a story of a little girl who meets a variety of people on a night journey to her lost parrot. Rosentaal is a first cooperation between the critically acclaimed scriptwriter Marek Epstein and the director Miroslav Krobot, with MAUR film helming the project. The film focuses on the life of a 16 years old orphan and is inspired by the life stories of an adventurer Jan Eskymo Welzl.

Diana Cam Van Nguyen (Apart), a student at Prague’s FAMU, prepares her graduation short film Love, dad (Váš táta), in which she thematizes a relationship between a father and his child who can’t meet each other because the parent is in prison. The project of the young director is produced by 13ka and was granted CZK 1 million (EUR 39 216).

Polish-Czech feature Diplodocus (Diplodokus), produced by Human ark and Progressivefx (on the Czech side), encourages children to believe in their own creativity. A family film about a prehistoric animal trying to find its place in the world was received the amount CZK 5 million (EUR 196 078) for the production.

Hello Bear! (Ahoj, medvěde!) is a unique project of 6 animatiors, produced by Bionaut, which is planned for both cinema and television. The animated adventure of the life of bears was supported with the amount of CZK 2 million (EUR 79 431).

Jan Cechl, in co-operation with Kuli Film, prepares a puppet animated film for adults called Lawrence from Moravia. The story, based on writings by a Catholic priest Alois Musil, brings the audience the adventure from Orient, and was granted CZK 2 million (EUR 78 431).

MUD PIE! (Bábovka!) is a short about a little girl Mína and her revived plush animals which she tries to save. The project, directed by Kateřina Karhánková and produced by MasterFilm, was granted CZK 3 million (EUR 117 647). Another story of a little girl supported in this call is directed by Lucie Sunková and produced by MAUR film. Zuza Has a Garden (Zuza má zahradu) focuses on the difference in the view of reality between adults and children, and was supported with the amount of CZK 1 million (EUR 29 216).

Two unusual stories from landfill were supported in this call. While 3-2-1 Start, produced by Krutar, directed by Martin Živocký and granted CZK 1,5 million (EUR 58 824), focuses on a hamster Elon who does not go well with rats because of its scientific spirit, Bára Anna Stejskalová’s Love Is Just a Death Away (produced by Bionaut), a gentle story about finding love among trash cans, was supported with the amount of CZK 500 000 (EUR 19 608).
