Brothers by Tomáš Mašín, a Cold war drama about two brothers fighting off the Czechoslovak communist rule, produced by Petr Bílek of FilmBrigade, won the Best Feature Film award, the main statuette of the Czech Lion Awards.
Though Brothers received the main award, it was also the only one it took away from the ceremony. Most awards, 5 in total, received the TV miniseries Volga by Jan Pachl, followed closely by the cyberpunk sci-fi Restore Point by Robert Hloz, which won 4 awards, including Best Cinematography and Best Editing. Tomáš Pavlíček and Jan Vejnar, directors of the chilling horror comedy She Came at Night, won the Best Director award, while Best Documentary Feature went to All Ends Well by Miroslav Janek. Best Animated Film was handed over to Tony, Shelly and the Magic Light by Filip Pošivač this year, and the Magnesia Award for the Best Student Film, awarded in cooperation with Mattoni 1873 and the Czech Film Fund, went to Daria Kashcheeva for her electrifying Electra. Also worth mentioning is the award for Exceptional Feat in the Area of Audio-Visual Arts, won by director Agnieszka Holland and producer Šárka Cimbalová of Marlene Film Production for the feature Green Border.
The ceremonial presentation of the Czech Lion Awards, hosted by Marek Eben and broadcasted live by Czech Television, took place on March 9 at Rudolfinum, Prague. For more information about the Czech Lion Awards, visit the official website.
