Furthermore, two Czech documentary projects were selected to attend the 13th DOK Leipzig Co-Pro Market. This is the case of The Fragile Beauty of Masculinity by Andrea Culková, produced by Duracfilm in co-production with HBO Europe, and Slovak-Czech coproduction The Good Death directed and produced by Tomáš Krupa (Hailstone), co-produced by Dagmar Sedláčková from MasterFilm.

The Fragile Beauty of Masculinity
There’s a pool in the heart of Europe. But you won’t see fast moves, pushed-to-the-limit paces, or flips. Here the water is almost stagnant, afloat with the clumsy limbs of those dancing with death.
Kladruby is a unique overflow chamber and incubator where those who inhabit it are given a lucky hard five months to reassess their goals and relationships. Five months to accept the fact that, though the world will never be as fast and full of tension as before the kiss of death, it is still a victory. Five months to come to terms with the fact that joy is just being able to open your eyes and find yourself having arrived the next day.

The film by Andrea Culková is produced by Duracfilm (Miroslav Novák) in coproduction with HBO Europe (Tereza Polachová) and should be finished by September 2018.
Culková graduated from Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Education - Art Education Dept. and from Film School of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Documentary Film Dept. (FAMU). Previous work: Sugar Blues (2014), Don’t Take My Life (2016), H*ART ON (2016).

The Good Death
Janette Butlin is incurably ill and wants to die with dignity but it is impossible in the UK. She contacts Doctor Erika Preisig in Switzerland who is willing to help her. However, Janette has to undergo an escape journey from the UK before it is too late. Jakub Jaroš has helped more than 200 clients with euthanasia in Germany. But now the organisation he works for faces a new law. Determined to fight their battle at the Constitutional Court, they advocate the right of choice. Do we own our life or does it own us?

The Good Death is directed and produced by Tomáš Krupa (Hailstone, SK) and co-produced by Dagmar Sedláčková (MasterFilm, CZ). The film should be finished by October 2018.
