He maintains his austere, lonely life with the dying pangs of faith that something just has to happen, that fate will finally fulfil his ideal vision of a woman, derived from a biological right to love. The ever-present thoughts of suicide are only temporarily dissipated by his reaction to a new text in the personal ads: “Hello, I am a single, slender university educated man, 184, somewhere between fifty and biological extinction and I want to get married, have a family and my own children. I look forward to your reply and send my regards. Jiří.”
