The Czech Audiovisual Fund (CAF) is the main public financing body for the audiovisual industry in the Czech Republic. It supports all stages of AV production, plus promotion, distribution and other AV-related areas. The CAF also administers production incentives for audiovisual content made in the Czech Republic.

Minority co-production support is opened in two categories

  • Fiction and documentary film
  • Animated film and series

 

Minority co-production – Fiction and documentary film

  • Annual budget: EUR 2,0 million (CZK 50 million)
  • Type of support: Selective scheme
  • Two application deadlines per year (next calls announced in December 2025 & July 2026)
  • Applications evaluated and selected by a separate Film Council

What we support

  • Theatrical fiction films and documentary films (features & shorts *)
  • Films at least partially produced in the Czech Republic using Czech goods and services
  • Films produced using Czech goods and services, regardless of where they are produced

Aspects considered by the fund´s Film Council in evaluating the projects:

  • Overall artistic quality and innovativeness
  • Czech artistic and technical contribution
  • Audience appeal, distribution, and marketing strategy
  • Creative team
  • Production strategy, financial viability, and sustainability
  • Cinema distribution in the Czech Republic

Conditions of support

  • 50% of the grant must be spent on Czech services, cast, and crew
  • The Czech share must amount to at least 10% of production costs, including a possible Czech share from Eurimages, or 5% when based on the Council of Europe Convention on Cinematographic Co-Production
  • The total amount of public funding for the entire project should not exceed 60% of the total budget for European co-productions, or 50% in other cases
  • All funding is nonrecoupable
  • Payment in two instalments: 60% after a substantial portion of the financing is secured, 40% after completion of filming

How to apply

  • Calls announced in December 2025 and July 2026
  • Application deadline 30 days after call announcement
  • Funding results three months after application deadline

* A short film is defined as a film whose running time of 60 minutes or less.

 

Minority co-production – Animated film and series

  • Annual budget: EUR 400 000 (CZK 10 million)
  • Type of support: Selective scheme
  • One application deadline per year (last call announced in October 2025)
  • Applications evaluated and selected by a separate Animation & Video Games Council

What we support

  • Animated films (features & shorts *) and series **
  • Fully animated works, i.e., with no live-action footage ***
  • Works produced using Czech goods and services, regardless of where they are produced

Aspects considered by the fund´s Animation & Video Games Council in evaluating the projects:

  • Overall artistic quality and innovativeness
  • Czech artistic and technical participation
  • Audience appeal, distribution, and marketing strategy
  • Creative team
  • Production strategy, financial viability, and sustainability
  • Cinema distribution or broadcasting in the Czech Republic

** An animated series is defined as 3 to 52 episodes.
*** Works that include live-action footage, even in part, fall under the Fiction and documentary film category.
