Here at the Czech Film Center, we have been systematically and intensively involved in the promotion of Czech short films for several years now, particularly at important foreign and domestic film festivals and markets. Electra, Love, Dad, Who's Who in Mycology, these are but a few Czech shorts we have supported on their way to international recognition. As part of long-time cooperation with the Czech Film and Television Academy, we select broader nominees for the Magnesia Award for best student film, and as members of the European Film Promotion, we organize the Future Frames program at KVIFF. We curate the annual Czech Short Films collection, a selection of newly produced Czech shorts. We also publish the CZECH FILM magazine, containing many interesting articles about Czech short films.
What we do
- we collect and process information regarding Czech short films, including their foreign and domestic release dates
- we prepare the database of upcoming and finished Czech shorts
- we curate and publish the Czech Short Films collection, an annual selection of newly produced Czech short films
- we cooperate closely with the programming departments of foreign and Czech film festivals all year round, informing them about current Czech productions and recommending Czech shorts for the festival programme
- we help Czech filmmakers and producers to come up with the optimal festival strategies
- we cooperate with film schools as a major coproduction partner
- we present short films at film festivals and coproduction markets (mainly at Clermont-Ferrand and Annecy, but also in Berlin and Cannes)
- we provide basic PR services, including the monitoring of the participation of Czech films or talents abroad and informing the press and general public about their notable successes via newsletters and social media
- as members of European Film Promotion, we organise the Future Frames program at KVIFF
- we participate in the Magnesia Award for the Best Student Film at the annual Czech Lion Awards
- three times a year we publish the CZECH FILM magazine, which contains many interesting articles about Czech film, including the short film production
