Director Karel Kachyňa's bittersweet comedy adds a touch of melodrama. Jiří Hubač's screenplay presents a story of a fifty-year-old retarded woman who is looked after by her sister, a rather prim doctor. Their gradual approchement leads the caregiver to a gracious reevaluation of her own approach to life. This film provided renowned Czech comedienne Jiřina Bohdalová with a deeper and more weighty acting opportunity.
