Greta Stocklassa’s directorial debut Kiruna – A Brand New World has been selected for the International Feature Film Competition, while another debut The Sound is Innocent by Johana Ožvold will have its premiere in the International Competition Burning Lights. Rozálie Kohoutová and Tomáš Bojar’s new documentary Off Sides will be screened in the Grand Angle section.

Kiruna - A Brand New World by Greta Stocklassa, selected fort the International Feature Film Competition, tells a story of the Swedish polar city of Kiruna that balances on the edge between progress and destruction. Under the threat of sinking due to the iron ore mining, it is going to be relocated three kilometers to the East. A new Kiruna will be built - even better, more modern, more integrated one. Is the future of Kiruna as clear as the politicians and the LKAB mining company say? A documentary debut was produced by Veronika Kührová and Michal Kráčmer from Analog Vision and was supported by the Czech Film Fund with EUR 25 490.

The history of electronic sound guides us The Sound is Innocent (produced by Kristýna Michálek Květová – Cinémotif Films). Johana Ožvold is not only the director of this documentary but also appears as the music composer in the film. For her, electronic music allows a wide range of free artistic expression. But how to find a direction in this seemingly endless space? She decides to set off on an odyssey to find out some advice. The Czech-French-Slovak co-production was supported in both development and production stages at the Czech Film Fund with EUR 70 588 and will be screened in the International Competition Burning Lights in Nyon.

Off Sides by Rozálie Kohoutová and Tomáš Bojar, who is also the producer of the film, will be premiered in the non-competitive section Grand Angle. Off Sides tells a story of an ice-hockey exchange between Moroccan and Czech teenagers, that brings a meeting of two greatly different cultures both on and off ice. The second cooperation between Kohoutová and Bojar after FC Roma (Best Czech Documentary at Ji.hlava IDFF 2016) was supported in the production stage by the Czech Film Fund with the amount of EUR 31 372.
