The Czech Film Fund announced support for the development of fiction features. Nine of the total of 22 submitted projects succeeded and were granted altogether CZK 7 million (EUR 274 509). The Council was interested in highly actual topics, historical projects or dystopian visions of the future.

Hranice soucitu is another cooperation between the prestigious director Bohdan Sláma and producers Petr Oukropec and Pavel Strnad from Negativ. While their last joint and successful film Ice Mother thematized an unconventional love story in advanced age, the drama Hranice soucitu, which was granted CZK 900 000 (EUR 35 294), intends to capture both prejudice and persistent racism in the Czech society in the countryside.

The highest amount CZK 1 million (EUR 39 215) was granted to Resurections (Vzkříšení) by Petr Vaclav. The respected author (We Are Never Alone, The Way Out) prepares an ambitious international sci-fi drama about a society in the near future, which is planned as first part of tetralogy, and was one of three dystopian features supported in this call.

Two other dystopian dramas are produced by Marek Novák (Xova Film): Ordinary Failures tells remarkable and original story about one day in the life of three women living in a mysterious city and thematizes a new beginning in the chaos of postmodern world. The Council supported three historical projects in this call - Arved, Pérák and 1938. Vojtěch Mašek’s Arved tells a story about a genius sentenced to life imprisonment for collaboration with the totalitarian regime while using his extraordinary memory to denounce old friends and summon the Devil. The project, produced by Cinémotif Films and set in the times of Nazi and Communist totality, was granted CZK 850 000 (EUR 33 333).

Marek Najbrt’s 1938 deals with a little-known period of Czech history right before World War II and received CZK 800 000 (EUR 31 372). Pérák (produced by Silk Films) is an adaptation of a successful theater play and focuses on the fictional superhero, that defended Czechs against Nazi Germany. The film, directed by Jiří Havelka, was supported with the amount of CZK 660 000 (EUR 25 882).
