The Czech Film Fund announced the results of the latest call for production support of short films. All together 5 projects were supported with the amount of CZK 3 million (EUR 117 647).

The highest amount in this call CZK 800 000 (EUR 31 373) was granted to Guru Film and director Natálie Císařovská who prepare Francek - a short film about world-famous painter František Kupka, his youth in Bohemia and his painting style.

Ondřej Erban, fresh participant of Cannes’ Cinéfondation with his student film One Hundred and Twenty-eight Thousand received CZK 600 000 (EUR 23 529) for the production of his new short The Opponent (Protihráč). The film, produced by Shore Points, tells a story of a former successful footballer who fights with an addiction to slot machines.

A study of crowd behavior facing a tragic event is a theme for Breathless Films and Adam Martinec, who competed with his previous short Sugar and Salt at San Sebastian IFF 2018. Martinec’s upcoming short The Anatomy of Czech Afternoon (Anatomie českého odpoledne) was supported with CZK 500 000 (EUR 19 608) and is based on the true story of two Vietnamese kids, who drowned in a lake full of other swimmers near Prague last year.

The Plastic Sheet (Igelit), directed by Tomáš Brožek and produced by Vernes, is a dark comedy which plays with what happens when the water is closed in a fitness center and the surrounding area. The debut project of the young student received CZK 600 000 (EUR 23 529).

Tomáš Hubáček prepares a short film Fibonacci about an art performance – dancing in the landscape. The film, produced by Mimesis Film, is thematically and formally linked with director’s upcoming feature Wirbel and was granted CZK 500 000 (EUR 19 608).
