Reconstruction by Ondřej Novák and Jiří Havlíček has been nominated for European Film Award in the category European Short Film 2019.

A short drama Reconstruction by debut directors Ondřej Novák and Jiří Havlíček earned the nomination for European Short Film 2019 which will be awarded at the 32nd European Film Awards on 7 December, 2019 in Berlin.

Sixteen minutes long drama, produced by Czech production company Master Film, competes with 4 other successful European films: Dogs Barking at Birds (Portugal), The Christmas Gift (Romania, Spain), The Marvelous Misadventures of the Stone Lady (France, Portugal) and Watermelon Juice (Spain).

Reconstruction, which premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival 2018 and competed in Les Arcs the same year, tells a story of a defenant who awaits trial in a detention center for juveniles. In the monotony prison, young Olda recalls how he described the violence he committed one summer’s night…

Directors based their film on a true story of two bored young boys who tortured a homeless man, sleeping on a bench in a park, to death. Using this film, they pointed out to a violence committed by juveniles on homeless people which they consider as a reaction of majority’s attitude towards the (socially) weakest.
