Czech producer Mikuláš Novotný (Background Films) was selected to take part in this year's European Film Promotion initiative PRODUCERS ON THE MOVE. The programme will take place online on its original dates from May 11 to 15, 2020.

The Czech Producer on the Move 2020 is Mikuláš Novotný from Prague based company Backrground Films. Novotný, graduate of FAMU, co-founded the company in 2012, debuting as a producer with Tomasz Mielnik's spiritual comedy Journey to Rome and a student short Resort which both premiered at Karlovy Vary IFF in 2015.

After producing another succesful student film, The Night of the Agama in 2018, Novotný finished producing Karel Vachek's long-term project, Communism and the Net or the End of the Representative Democracy. The documentary premiered in the Tyger Burns section at Rotterdam IFF 2020.

Nowdays, Czech producer co-works with polish collegue Leszek Bodzak from Aurum Film on Jan P. Matuszyński's drama, set in 1983 Warsaw, Leave No Traces. The film was supported by the Czech Film Fund as minority co-production with EUR 122 222. Novotný also produces another Tomasz Mielnik's project, Gregorius, the Chosen One, which is currently in development.

"Since I was a kid I always dreamt of being a producer on the move. Not only they would not accept me in, but also the Cannes Film Festival mess around costs were too high. Many years went by, the planet is dying out due to the constant call for movement and finally the first ever digital edition of Producers on the Move is introduced, entirely online! I'm so happy I can be part of this, at home, full fridge, no sweat," said the producer.

Networking programme Producers on the Move is every year organised by the European Film Promotion during the Cannes IFF, this year, the very first digital edition of the initiative will be held online independently of the festival which has been postponed to June.

Twenty selected young European producers have an opportunity to establish new contacts and present their current projects to each other. EFP selects the 20 producers from nominations received from its member organizations, which is in case of Czech Republic Czech Film Center / Czech Film Fund.

Several Czech producers have participated in the programme before. Radovan Síbrt (PINK) was the Producer on the Move in 2018, Pavla Janoušková Kubečková (nutprodukce) took part in 2017, Jan Macola (Mimesis) in 2016.
