In this documentary portrait, Iva Janžurová – an icon of Czech film, television, and theatre – is seen through the sensitive eyes of her daughter. Through the prism of the close relationship between the protagonist and the director, not only Janžurová’s admirable professional activism in the present but also her past career and personal life in a contemporary context are newly revealed. The observational style naturally intertwines with the staged scenes, in which, for example, photographs from Iva’s childhood, excerpts from private correspondence, or other arranged situations from the past come to life. In their joint meetings, the daughter and her mother reflect on specific methods when performing theatre and film roles, on self-presentation, but also on human nature itself.
