Period drama with balladic traits set in the realm of the Holy Roman Empire at the time of The Great Plague (1348). The story is based on the acts of violence committed at the time against the Jewish community in countries of central and western Europe. The protagonists are knights Gottfried and a generation younger Siegfried, who offers a shelter to a Jew named Amos, chased by Gottfried. Gottfried, fanatically devoted to his conviction, insists on Amos being handed over, which Siegfried refuses. Thus, the clash between the Christians and the Jews carries over to the plain of conflict between two members of the same social class with different standpoints.
