In 1984, the USSR’s most famous and beloved stand-up comedian Boris Arkadiev is slowly becoming unhinged. Boris is tormented not only by external oppression and censorship, but also by his own insecurities that poison all his relationships. This time, the eternal battle between an Artist and the State will be fought on the unexpected level of insult humor routines and jokes. Humorist is a psychological drama raising timeless issues: Is talent an excuse for unprincipled behavior; can someone working in the “low genre” of comedy be considered an artist; what is the value of success achieved at the cost of endless compromise.
