By means of commented filmography, the film portrays one of the most gifted 20th century filmmakers coming from Eastern Europe. Cinematographer of Diamonds of the Night by Jan Němec and Daisies by Věra Chytilová among others, Kučera had a crucial impact on the creation and fame of the Czechoslovak New Wave, a movement that helped to revolutionize cinema in the 1960s.
