The film tells a story of a young Jewish girl Terezka Zágorová, who leaves her home in Pilsen and moves to her aunt's house in a Wallachian village, to hide from the threat of deportation, during WW2. She tries to fit in the new environment, getting used to the local traditions and domestic animals, and she even experiences her first love here. However, the pressure of the war affects the life in the countryside too and Terezka has to be very careful not to reveal her secret.
