Young Jolana’s family life is dominated by the tension stemming from her stepfather’s open sexual advances. The girl can’t defend herself against him, preferring to escape into a world of dreams and fantasies. Avoiding any detailed psychological development, the film picks up the heroine at a later date after she begins working as an escort at a luxurious brothel. A young policeman comes to her rescue, yet the border between hope and humiliation proves just as uncertain as the connection between the heroine’s dreams and her real life.
