What unfolds against the backdrop of the story of Klára Knabelováand her relationships with three Austro-Hungarian Army officers isa parable of the collapse of the old world of traditional values andthe start of the proliferation of new (dis)orders. World War I becomesa trigger for this process of disintegration and an incubator formysterious, irrational forces. The only person who can emerge from this melting-pot with a clean slate is a strong and charismaticwoman who becomes a symbol of composure, as well as thepromise of “new tomorrows.”
