Created by combining an older documentary entitled Standard with new material, the result seeks to portray family life in Bohemia at the turn of the century. A family gathering invariable leads to conflict from which there is no escape; the living room furniture becomes psychoanalytic props for all to use... An abandoned grandmother, her divorced daughter, and soon-to-be-married granddaughter set out for the picturesque Czech Paradise in northern Bohemia where they are to live for some time. The trip gives rise to unexpected flare-ups of family injustice... The honesty of a woman newly arrived from Moravia sheds light on interpersonal relationships in the entire family. The sons begin haranguing their wives, as does her current partner...
