Set in a forgotten corner of war-torn Europe, this dramatic story engages the conflict between two different worlds, two human temperaments, in order to explore the relationship between fear and mistrust. Eliška works as a nurse in an urban hospital. She and her lover Richard, a surgeon, are part of the secret local resistance. One night a critically wounded country man is brought to the hospital from a distant border region in the mountains. Eliška’s willingness to donate blood saves his life.... The resistance group is eventually compromised; Richard goes underground, and Eliška is offered an ostensibly safe hideout. Overnight, she is forced to abandon life in town for a mountain village in the wilderness where time seems to have stopped 150 years earlier…
