A grandiose movie parable by Juraj Jakubisko. The film paints a fateful fresco, beyond determinations of place and time, of life in a mountain village. The central character is the innkeeper’s wife Verona who, after the death of her husband and children, finds passionate though doomed love with her son-in-law. The tragedy is increased by the symbolic motif of a wolf pack’s brutal attack on the village. The film also exists as a six-part TV miniseries.
