Ninth-grader Nikola, her younger sister Aneta, and their father move to a new town. Nikola enters the ninth grade, a hostile environment where she must earn her place. It is not an easy task, as the girls are bossed by Majda, who doesn’t like to see that the class idol Šimon starts to peek at the new pupil. The school is ruled with a firm hand of the strict, uptight headmistress Kadavá, who has no sense of humor. Kadavá’s relationship with Vojtěch, a geography teacher and the class teacher of the ninth graders is especially strained. The headmistress assigns the class to rehearse a series of folk songs and dances for a school musical evening under the direction of the dry and unpopular music teacher Chramosta. The students decide to boycott him and secretly rehearse the performance with their class teacher Vojtěch, a former famous rock star. The whole situation escalates at the school musical evening, where numerous complicated relationships unravel, and an open revolt breaks out against the headmistress Kadavá. Final performance belongs to the ninth-graders led by Vojtěch.
