The year is 1805. The story takes place during the Battle of Austerlitz in Moravia. At that time, Moravia was trampled first by the retreating Austrian Army, then the Russian Army and finally by the French Grand Army. Brno, the Capital of Moravia, has been thrown into a chaotic state of affairs accompanied by frequent changes of the local government. In Brno, we find the protagonist Kajetan Unterweeger, conscientious manager of Josef Jiri Trassler‘s property. Trassler, Brno townsman and a printer, escaped to safety of Silesian Cracow to avoid war dangers and he left his property to poor Kajetan to worry about. Kajetan is trying, at all costs, to protect his own life and also lives of his wife and his grooms from the looting and pillaging armies.
