A fanatically devoted grandmother comes to visit a neurotic, argumentative and godless family. Her infallible religious beliefs and temper cause her to disrupt the family structure and try to convince all family members to accept the God she worships. She is successful in this, except for her teenage granddaughter Kristýna. A girl wonders why her grandmother spent her life traveling around monasteries instead of living with her family. Kristýna experiences unrequited love for a professor at the faculty and is unhappy at home because of her family's constant arguments and shouting. A grandmother sees her granddaughter as possessed by demons. The tragedy that follows is ultimately a blessing for the entire family.
