Solo, directed by Artemio Benki, was awarded the best Czech documentary at Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival 2019. Special Mention in the Czech Joy section went to Jiří Zykmund’s Lost Coast, and the Student Jury honored Kings of Sumava and Apparatgeist.

A story of a brilliant Argentinean pianist and composer, Solo, dominated the Czech Joy section. Czech-French-Argentinean-Austrian documentary, directed and produced by Artemio Benki and Petra Oplatková (Artcam Films), was awarded the best Czech documentary.

After the World Premiere at Cannes’s ACID and after the achievement at Makedox (Onion Award for the best film), Solo crowns the year of festival success by the win on the domestic scene.

Special Mention in the Czech Joy Section went to Jiří Zykmund’s Lost Coast. The documentary, produced by Jiří Konečný (Endorfilm), follows a citizen’s initiative for an improvement of the South Moravian reservoir Nové Mlýny.

The Student Jury of the Czech Joy honored with the award for the best Czech film Czech-Irish Kings of Sumava, directed by Irish documentarian Kris Kelly and produced by Vratislav Šlajer from Bionaut. The jurors also granted the Special Mention to a short Apparatgeist by the FAMU student Marie-Magdalena Kochová.

In the student competition Between the Seas, focused on remarkable student documentaries from the Central and Eastern Europe, the jury mentioned Nikola Krutilová’s short Daily Manure (produced by FAMU).

The Award for best Czech experimental documentary film went to Marie Lukáčová for her Moréna Rex. The Special Mention in this category was granted to Franc Milec’s Abstract Horror.

In the short length category (Silver Eye Award) succeeded Eliška Cilková's Pripyat Piano, the Audience Award went to Two Roads by Radovan Síbrt, and with the Best Audiodocumentary Award was honored Tereza Reková's Dobrá vůle - Matěj.
