The European Film Academy revealed the nominations for this year's European Film Awards, and nominated Czech animation feature film Even Mice Belong in Heaven in the Animation Feature Film category. Romanian director Radu Jude also received a nomination in the European Director category and European Screenwriter category for his Romanian-Luxembourgish-Czech-Croatian film Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn.

Even Mice Belong in Heaven

European Film Awards' Animation Feature Film category includes Even Mice Belong in Heaven by Denisa Grimmová and Jan Bubeníček, which was made as Czech-French-Polish-Slovak co-production with Vladimír Lhoták of Fresh Films and Alexandre Charlet of Les Films du Cygne being the main producers. Co-production partners include  Animoon (PL), Czech Television (CZ), Barrandov Studio (CZ), DD Production (CZ) and Canal+ (PL).

The film tells a story of a little mouse Whizzy  and Whitebelly, a fox. They are naturally mortal enemies. One day, after an unfortunate accident, they meet in animal heaven. Together, they will embark on a fantastic journey and discover friendship can overcome everything.

Even Mice Belong in Heaven world-premiered at the Annecy IAFF 2021 in the exclusive Screening Events section. Since then, the film was also screened at Shanghai IFF, Karlovy Vary IFF, Cinekid or Kids Kino Festival and it was also selected for Just Film Children's competition of upcoming Tallinn Black Nights FF.

The film was supported by the Czech Film Fund for development (EUR 23 000 in 2012), production (EUR 338 000 in 2014) and also in the incentives programme (EUR 321 000 in 2020), by the Creative Europe – MEDIA (EUR 60 000 in 2014) and by the Eurimages Fund (EUR 370 000 in 2018).

Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn

Romanian auteur Radu Jude, director of Golden Bear winning satirical dark comedy Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn has been nominated for two European Film Awards - in the European Director category and in the Eruopean Screenwriter category.

The films follows Emi, a school teacher, who finds her career and reputation under threat after a personal sex tape is leaked on the Internet. Forced to meet the parents demanding her dismissal, Emi refuses to surrender to their pressure.

Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn was made as Romanian-Luxembourgish-Czech-Croatian co-production with Ada Solomon of microFILM acting as a main producer. Czech co-producer of the film is Jiří Konečný of endorfilm, who ho has already collaborated with Radu Jude for the third time. The previous co-operation was also fruitful, with Aferim! (2015) winning the Silver Bear for Best Director at Berlinale (and two EFA nominations) and "I Do Not Care If We Go Down in History as Barbarians" (2018) winning the Karlovy Vary IFF.

The Czech Film Fund supported all three aforementioned Jude films. Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn received the amount of EUR 96 000 in the minority co-production scheme.
