The Way Out - Czech feature film after 16 years back in Cannes

t

The Way Out directed by Petr Václav will be premiered at International Film Festival in Cannes as a first Czech film since 1998.

The long-awaited feature drama The Way Out will be screened in independent programme section ACID (Association du Cinéma Indépendant pour sa Diffusion). It is an association of film directors which, for 21 years, has been promoting the cinema distribution of independent films and encouraging debates between the authors and the audiences.

ACID has had its own programme at the Cannes International Film Festival since 1993 presenting 9 feature films every year.

The Way Out was coproduced by French company Cinéma Defacto and tells a story of a young Romani couple,  the parents of little Sarinka. Their efforts to live a decent and dignified life run up against the “Romani social trap,” which is racism, the society’s prejudices, exclusion from opportunities to obtain legal work, the lack of necessary qualifications, difficult communication with officials, debts and the miserable life conditions connected with the environment, lifestyle and traditional values of their ethnicity.

The film will appear in Czech cinemas in May 2014.
