During the panel, five selected Czech documentary projects are presented to international film professionals, primarily festival representatives, distributors and sales agents. The aim of the panel is to enable Czech producers to showcase their upcoming films that have the potential for international distribution or festival screenings abroad.

How does the event work?

Each creative team has 10 minutes to briefly introduce their project, including a film excerpt, followed by a short discussion with the moderator. As part of the presentation, producers and directors should introduce the project according to the standard structure: topic, approach, team, financing and production timeline.

The key element of the presentation should be a prepared excerpt — a cohesive visual sample of approximately five minutes that helps reveal the documentary’s form, its expressive tools and visual style.

The public presentation is followed by a networking event where the creative teams can meet invited international experts.

Professional preparation

The event also includes professional preparation with tutors from East Doc Platform, who provide the presenting teams with useful advice on what aspects of their project to focus on during the presentation. This preparation takes the form of an introductory online meeting with a tutor.

Additional activities

The Czech Docs panel is part of East Doc Platform (EDP), during which Czech filmmakers can meet documentary professionals from Central and Eastern Europe or attend the professional programme.

The selected projects and information about the panel will also be included in the EDP Project Catalogue, and the filmmakers will be listed in the EDP Industry Guide.

Venue and organisers

The Czech Docs panel takes place every year in March in Prague at the French Institute.

The event is organised by the Institute of Documentary Film in cooperation with the Czech Audiovisual Fund.
