Martin Smatana (1991 Slovakia) is a graduate of Animation at FAMU in Prague, Czech Republic. His debut stop motion short Rosso Papavero (2015) premiered at Berlinale 2015 and won 15 international awards. His graduation film The Kite premiered at Berlinale 2019, was selected to the semifinals of Student Academy Award and included in the Film Collection of MoMA (Museum of Modern Art in New York), where it will be screened in the next three years in the circle for families with children. The Kite won 65 international awards including Annecy, Stuttgart, Anima Mundi, Ale Kino, Anilogue. Martin recently released an illustrated book “. Year of Good News”. For the last two years he was developing a short animated film Hello Summer and attended several development labs and pitching forums including Animation Sans Frontieres, Berlinale Talents, MIFA Pitches, CEE Animation Forum and Animarkt Stop Motion Forum. Expected release is February 2023.
