Judith (27) has just given birth under the supervision of police officers. Subsequently, she and her newborn daughter Nora are legally released from prison for a year. She will then have to surrender the child to the authorities and serve the remainder of her 8-year sentence for murder. The main storyline of the story is clearly framed by this one year of the heroine's freedom, but we are also continually returning to her past - both to the moments that shaped her tendency to run away from her problems, and to her time in prison to the circumstances under which she managed to become pregnant there.
