In pre-war Europe, 22-year-old Czech composer and conductor Vítězslava Kaprálová leaves for Paris to study at a prestigious conservatory and make her mark in the male-dominated world of music. Her letters from this period reveal a young artist filled with wonder, creative fervor, and anxiety over the looming threat of exile. In Paris, Kaprálová composes her most celebrated works, yet her brilliant career is cut short by her sudden death. Today, her compositions - created over the course of only a few years - continue to be performed on stages around the world. In the film, her music comes to life through performances by acclaimed soloists Adam Plachetka, Steven Isserlis, and conductor Alena Hron, as well as by students at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where Kaprálová studied nearly a century ago. The film is not only a portrait of an inspiring composer but also a reflection on creative legacy, identity, and the challenges that women in classical music still face today.
