If Pigeons Turned to Gold follows four family members, whose common past has grown into a present fundamentally at odds. The director Pepa closely documents the lives of their Brother and two closest cousins, each struggling with addiction. Following the characters’ journey – from life on the streets and attempts at new beginnings to the relentless pull of old habits – the film explores how trauma shapes our lives and asks if breaking free is truly possible. The story unfolds as a mosaic, combining real-life footage with archival family photographs reimagined through AI. Childhood figures, now speaking with adult voices, blur the boundaries between past and present and blend personal memory with broader insights into psychological roots of addiction.
