"Frank Daniel was, in my opinion, the best teacher of film in its history." David Lynch
How did the Czech screenwriter František Daniel become a globally renowned figure in film dramaturgy? He was one of the first students of FAMU. As a producer he participated in the first Czechoslovak Oscar-winning film. As a dean, he was at the founding of the American Film Institute, a school that attempted to revive American cinematography along European models. Our documentary chooses the perspective of a film theorist who, through interviews and archives, traces the genesis of the Daniel myth. Over the course of six chapters, we intend to trace the birth of Daniel's method, which laid the foundation for teaching at FAMU, gained him popularity with students at AFI, and eventually brought him worldwide fame and the position of art director of the Sundance Film Festival.
