The feature-length documentary based on the travel diary of my grandfather, Vratislav Krainer, who cycled around Europe in the summer of 1937. He cycled through Germany, Austria, Italy, and finally France. The destination was clear: Paris, and the International Exhibition of Art and Technology in Modern Life, EXPO. The exhibition of a united Europe, a united world. For 42 days, my grandfather travelled around a continent that was slowly but surely preparing for the Second World War. He kept meticulous records during his journey, creating an elaborate travel diary. Full of emotion, adventure, and the historical realities of a changing Europe from the perspective of a 22-year-old boy crossing the borders of his country and seeing the sea for the first time.
