My Life for My Word is a feature documentary about Czech novelist Radka Denemarková, at the moment the most influential and translated Czech writer.
Film chronicles two years of the life and work of writer and translator Radka Denemarková. It is her uncompromising and determined attitude to life that sends her to places where it is necessary to give a voice to those who usually do not have one – women, persecuted dissidents, children, or victims. She puts these subjects at the forefront of her books and thus tells stories of life and death, capturing the broader contexts of global injustices. The movie is about her story, her transformation into an independent and committed writer, and that of her surroundings – her family, friends, and the literary world. She is the only Czech writer to have won four Magnesia Litera awards, numerous international prizes. Her unique storytelling is like herself: very complex, but worth getting to know.
