An aging Iranian writer, exiled and mourning her husband’s death, is denied the right to return home. In a final, defiant act of love, she makes a daring decission.
Sima, an aging Iranian writer living in exile in the Czech Republic, is consumed by grief after the death of her husband, Hamid, a political activist who longed to be buried in Iran. After much hesitation, Sima visits the Iranian embassy and is assured that obtaining a new passport to fulfill Hamid’s final wish is possible. As she prepares to leave, Karel, the absentee Czech owner of the house she lives in, returns to spend his final days in his childhood home. Despite their initial conflict, the two exiles form a fragile bond over their shared sense of displacement. When Sima learns that only Hamid’s body can return to Iran, and Karel passes away in the garden, Sima is faced with an impossible choice so she makes a daring decision.
