A young woman, Viki, starts working as a new employee at the most demanding counter of the employment office – the material emergency department. Having just begun her probation period, she experiences firsthand how mentally demanding the job is. The client hall is filled with people who have often been struggling with poverty for many years. Together with Viki, we learn what options civil servants have to help applicants, and how difficult it is to design a system capable of responding to all life situations. Over time, Viki finds herself increasingly at odds with bureaucracy and with her colleagues, worn out and demotivated by years of work. Is the well-known saying that "every society is only as strong as its weakest member" still true?
