K. is a cinematic expedition into the human psyche, following two patients who underwent pioneering LSD-assisted psychotherapy in 1970s Communist Czechoslovakia. At Sadská Clinic, psychiatrist Milan Hausner led over three thousand sessions. Hana K., diagnosed as schizophrenic and suicidal, and Karel Šebek, a tormented poet, shared sessions, sometimes serving as one another’s sitter. Their recorded LSD experiences blur trauma and psychosis, and the two fall in love while longing to escape confinement. Guided by Dr. Michael Vančura—Hausner’s colleague and Hana’s psychiatrist today—the film revisits their story through Sadská archives and present-day footage.
