A captivating life story of the famous Czech actor and playwright Jan Werich with unique examples and quotations from his work. Since Jan Werich supported the Prague Spring of 1968, the Soviet regime prevented him from appearing publicly. When he was finally allowed to perform again, his health became an issue. We will look at the key stages of Werich's life including the emergence of the Liberated Theatre, the dramatic escape from the Nazis and disappointment with the new regime. We bring new little-known facts, such as the escape to Austria and his second emigration to the USA.
