The film covers the heated dispute over a U.S. military base that was to built in the Brdy Military Area, formerly a secret arsenal for Soviet nuclear war heads during the Cold War, as part of part of the National Missile Defense Program. The Czech Republic found itself the focus of the world’s superpowers virtually overnight. The Russians threatened to aim their nuclear missiles at the Czech Republic. Within a two years the country was visited by George Bush, Condoleezza Rice, Barack Obama, Joe Biden and dozens of lobbyists representing American arms manufacturers as well as US opponents of the installation. The largest Czech movement since the Velvet Revolution came together to protest the American base. Czech Peace presents the great political qiandaries of the George W. Bush / Barack Obama eras through the eyes of inhabitants of a tiny village located somewhere in the Czech Republic. …Presidents and generals metaphorically meet ordinary people in the woods, which become the object of war. …During these nonhierarchical encounters the personal clashes with the impersonal, the specific with the universal, an individual with the so-called great history. A playfully explosive film of our times from the directors of the hyper-comedy Czech Dream.
