Charlatan selected for the Telluride Film Festival

The prestigious Telluride Film Festival, which was scheduled to take place in September but was sadly cancelled, revealed its official selection with Czech-Irish-Polish-Slovak Charlatan, directed by world-famous Agnieszka Holland, produced by Marlene Film Production and on the Czech side, co-produced by Czech Television, Barrandov Studio, CertiCon and MagicLab.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, organizers of the Telluride Film Festival (Colorado) were forced to cancel this year's edition, but its programmers revealed films that would’ve been selected this year. Czech-Irish-Polish-Slovak drama Charlatan, directed by world-famous Polish director Agnieszka Holland and produced by Šárka Cimbalová and Kevan Van Thompson from Prague-based Marlene Film Production, is in the line-up.

Telluride Film Festival, found in 1974, celebrated world premieres of films by Jim Jarmusch, David Lynch or Clint Eastwood in the past. In 2016, the festival premiered digitally restored Czechoslovak Baron Munchausen (Karel Zeman, 1961). The last Czech film selected for the official selection of TFF was Jan Hřebejk's Up and Down back in 2004.

Inspired by the life story of Czechoslovak healer Jan Mikolášek, portrayed by Ivan Trojan, Charlatan caught the eyes of the Berlinale Special Gala programmers earlier this year. The film would have already been selected for dozens of festivals, but due to the ongoing Coronavirus problems, the situation has changed.

Films Boutique, handling the sales deals of Charlatan, announced multiple sales on the drama in June. The film has sold to France (KMBO), Spain (Vercine), Italy (Movies Inspired), Australia (Vendetta Films), Israel (Lev Cinema), Turkey (Filmarti), Benelux (Cinemien Film Distribution), Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland (Pro-Fun Media Film Distribution), Baltics (Best Film), Bulgaria (Art Fest), ex-Yugoslavia (MCF Megacom), Hungary (Mozinet), Iceland (Bio Paradis), Portugal (Leopardo) and Latin America (Great Movies).
