Locarno's co-production platform Open Doors Hub, which takes place online this year, will introduce Myanmar-French-Czech fiction feature Fruit Gathering. A drama, currently in the development stage, is co-produced by Vít Janeček on the Czech side.

This year's online edition of Locarno Film Festival also includes international co-production platform Open Doors Hub (6-11 August, 2020), focused on the films from South East Asian region and Mongolia. In the programme, Czech cinema is represented by the majority Myanmar film Fruit Gathering (directed by Aung Phoye), which is produced by Third Floor Production (MM), co-produced by Art-Production (FR), and by Vít Janeček from Prague based company D1film (CZ).

The drama, set in Myanmar, explores complicated friendship between two women, focusing on them for several years in different stages of their lifes. Through the process, in which they fall in love with each other, the film exposes their inner demons and vulnerability while living in a repressive society.

"Myanmar just got out of military regime and is trying to catch up with the rest of the world, but the daily experiences of ordinary people living in this country are not as simple as it seems," explaines the director Aung Phoye who participates in Locarno for the third time. His short Seasonal Rain was screened in the Open Doors Screening in 2017. His second short film Cobalt Blue was selected to Pardi di Domani International Competition at 72nd Locarno Film Festival.

The six-day program of Open Doors Hub alternates pitching coaching, group discussions, one-to-one meetings and networking activities with Industry decision makers and Festival guests. On the last day, a professional jury grants either development, production or post-production support to a few winning projects.
