Screenwriter and director Tomáš Kratochvíl, together with his children, transforms a damaged piece of land into a living space that brings nature and the local community together.
Director Tomáš Kratochvíl buys a former landfill near the village of Rovečné in the Vysočina region—a place to which he has been personally connected since childhood. In the neglected landscape, he discovers unexpected natural value: a rare alpine newt lives in the local fire reservoir, endangered field crickets nest in the meadows, and an ancient maple tree grows among the waste. Tomáš calls a public meeting and presents a plan to revitalise the site with experts and the local community. Children from the local school and children’s home, including his son Vašek, take part. The project is accompanied by conflict, mistrust and hostility. Gradually, however, the Čolek Association emerges—an initiative that brings people together around caring for the landscape and shared public space.
