Arved is the winner of Czech Film Critics' Awards 2022

Czech film critics have selected Arved as the Best Film of 2022 at the ceremony held in Archa Theatre on Saturday, 4 February. Altogether, the film received three statuettes. The Best Director Award went to Adam Sedlák for BANGER. and the innogy Award for Newcommer of the Year was awarded to Michal Blaško. The Best Documentary of 2022 is according to the critics Kapr Code directed by Lucie Králová.

Arved, debut feature of director Vojtěch Mašek dominated the Czech Film Critics’ Awards 2022. Not only it won the Best Film Award for producers Kristýna Michálek Květová and Tomáš Michálek of Cinémotif Films but critics awarded Vojtěch Mašek and Jan Poláček also the prize for Best Script and Michal Kern, who portrayed the eponymous occultist, received the Best Actor Award.

Director Michal Blaško was voted the innogy Newcomer of the Year. Suspicion, the miniseries written by Štepán Hulík and directed by Blaško, was awarded in the Offscreen category and Vita Smachelyuk received the Best Actress Award for the portrayal of the main character Irina in Blaško’s feature film debut Victim.

Several films took home a single award. Adam Sedlák won Best Director for BANGER., a tale of a young drug dealer trying to break into the rap music business. Director Petr Januschka scored in the Best Short Film category for Island of Freedom, a story of cold war defection. Best Documentary prize went to Lucie Králová for Kapr Code, a mixed media documentary about composer Jan Kapr. And Šimon Špidla won the Audiovisual Achievement Award for his editing work on the documentary Good Old Czechs, about Czechoslovak pilots flying with Britain’s Royal Airforce during World War II.
