After eight years, a domestic film has once again claimed the top prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF).

At the 59th edition of the festival, the Crystal Globe was awarded to the Czech-Slovak documentary Better Go Mad in the Wild, a new work by acclaimed Slovak documentarian Miro Remo (At Full Throttle). The film follows the lives of two older eccentric men living in the forests of Šumava Mountains. Young newcomer Kateřina Falbrová received a Special Jury Mention for the leading role in the Broken Voices by Ondřej Provazník, which also competed for the Crystal Globe. Furthermore, Broken Voices received the non-statutory Europa Cinemas Label Award designated to highlight high-quality European films that deserve wider theatrical release. Lastly, the Audience Award of the newspaper Právo went to the opening film of this year’s KVIFF: the documentary We've Got to Frame It!, in which Jiří Bartoška, the former president of the festival, reflects on his life and career.

Heartfelt congratulations to all the winners!
